I was born, not yesterday nor the day before, in a small place called Insch (now that is small), in Aberdeenshire. The first four years of my life were spent in Inverurie before moving to Menie, near the site of Donald Trump's multi-million Pound golf & leisure complex, where my father had the local blacksmith's business and I was educated at Ellon Academy which I really enjoyed. However I couldn't be bothered continuing my education at college and entered the workplace instead, joining a shipping office. Following that I worked with an oil related company, before returning to a shipping/ freight forwarding company, mainly in an accounts related/ credit control role. Married to Audrey, we have two grown up children, Ciaran & Devon, and have lived in Bridge of Don for 26 years plus. Having been an insulin dependant diabetic for 40 years I have been heavily involved with raising funds for the local branch of Diabetes UK. My main hobbies are football, family, faith, fun and music. No "f" in music you may say - well that's another story! And, of course, I am renowned for my wicked sense of humour and jokes. I have followed the mighty Dons (Aberdeen F.C.) through the good, the bad and the ugly years and, of course, was there in Gothenburg in '83 when they beat Real Madrid to win the European Cup Winners Cup. I joined the church at 16, having attended regularly with my family, feeling the presence of the Lord when first diagnosed as a diabetic. I love sharing the Bible with children especially and enjoy the fun and fellowship of holiday clubs at our church. Plus it keeps me young. I have always been surrounded by music. I have attended shows at the Theatre and the Tivoli with my family and enjoyed many "Bothy Nichts" at home as a youngster when we often had a ceilidh with the local farm hands providing their various forms of entertainment. My musical tastes cover many genres and I continue to attend live acts at various venues, usually at least once a week, covering indie groups from the Arctic Monkeys to Kasabian, the rock sounds of Bryan Adams to Sandi Thom, the country genius of Malcolm Holcomb to the great traditional style of Isla St.Clair or the laid back easy listening of the fantastic Paul Carrick. The first record I bought was "She Loves You" by the Beatles and they still continue to be my favourite band, while Elvis is king of the soloists. Don't know how I was persuaded to join Uplift Radio but the whole concept and ethos of the station is fantastic and, once Don Treader found out I had a mobile disco many years ago and still have thousands of vinyl records (remember them?), he somehow convinced me to host a pick 'n' mix show which I have developed over the years. And of course I have the perfect face for radio! Click here to see Brian's Blog!
